Malta was once a British colony, so packing along power adapters was quite unnecessary given that the power plugs are the same as in the UK!
Day 3: Gozo Island
Today we visited Malta's second largest island, Gozo! But first, we (and I really mean myself) really wanted to fried chicken, so we found one of three KFC chains in all of Malta to get some! The KFC we went to did not open until 11am, so we waited around until it did, got fried chicken, and off we drove to Ċirkewwa Ferry Terminal on the north west tip of Malta (island) to take a ferry to Gozo!
Much to our relief, the ferry took about 20 - 30 minutes and was MUCH better than the cruise ride the day before! Once in Gozo, we drove through Victoria (aka Rabat), the capital of Gozo. We were planning to go to the Cittadella but the town was really crowded, so we drove to Azure Window first instead!
Azure or Dwejra Window was where Game of Thrones was filmed for all you fans, however, the window collapsed earlier this year, leading us to call the site Azure Not Window for the rest of the trip.
It wasn't only until we left did we realise we completed missed the Blue Hole (yes the "Blue" continues), but we actually have photo / video footage of it so not all is lost! Next we went back to Cittadella, an area said to be inhabited since the Bronze Age, and is on the UNESCO World Heritage Site's tentative list!

Dissatisfied with our lack of a window, after Cittadella, we went to Wied il-Mielah Window, another one of Gozo's natural limestone arches! There wasn't much in the area but there are some steps leading to the bottom of the arch and it gets really close to the water.
After being outdoors for a while, we decided to head back into the town area to catch some shade! We browsed around the local shopping centre and walked the streets of Victoria. We actually found the most adorable postcard shop that sold many unique designs and some even painted postcards! The best part was the shopkeeper, who gave Leanne and I free postcards after Zong-Ying bought some! He was also super well travelled and told us that if we wanted nice beaches, we should have stayed in Malaysia (can't argue that). Whilst in town, we also checked out Villa Rundle, it's a fairly small garden located in town, and didn't really have a lot of flowers? Maybe not the most interesting part of Gozo.
NEXT STOP? Dahlet Qorrot Bay, aka my favourite part of Gozo. You can imagine with us travelling in July, most areas were super crowded. Dahlet Qorrot Bay offered a good level of peace from all the tourist and actually turned out to be a great photo spot! Needless to say, I got a few vain shots of myself including:
Arguably my favourite personal shot was also taken there, Zong-Ying and I literally waited for the waves, and I think it was well worth the wait, what do you think?
Following my favourite spot in Gozo, was my least favourite spot in Gozo - San Blas Bay. We went there hoping to relax for the rest of the day, but it turned out to be a super rocky, small, and an absolutely filthy beach. We ended up just taking some group shots (in the middle of a ton of seaweed), but then returned to Dahlet Qorrot to relax!
After all that fun, we made our long drive back to our airbnb, where you can say a couple incidents happened. Gonna keep those private but feel free to ask me personally if you're interested! We were supposed to head back to cook dinner, but because of the incidents, we ended up grabbing food at McDonald's, so it turned out to be a fast food kind of day!
Day 4: Golden Bay Beach & Marsaskala
Our last day was just super chill day. We all woke up fairly late and cooked ourselves some creamy pasta with fried luncheon meat (as if we didn't get enough pasta the entire trip) for lunch!
After that, we made our way to Golden Bay Beach, aka the only sandy beach we found in Malta. We weren't the only ones looking for a sandy beach because it was SO BUSY! Leanne, ZY, and I spent some good time in the water, hopping with the waves, and cooling down in the water.
You can say I had such a good time I left a part of me behind! After hopping with one of the larger waves, my eyes were stinging so I was fairly distracted, then came another wave that took my glasses away! Talk about adding to salt to injury, ha! So with stinging eyes, I tried to look for my glasses in water that had a lot of seaweed, needless to say, the search didn't last very long! Accepting the faith of my glasses, we wave-hopped some more, then went back ashore to enjoy the sun for the rest of the afternoon.
After washing up at our airbnb, we headed to the town of Marsaskala to enjoy dinner at Grabiel! Not sure if it was the waves but we were all super hungry and ordered one main dish each PLUS grilled sea bass and octopus to share! End result? We didn't finish our food and packed it in hopes to have it for breakfast the next day before our flight back to the UK. Woke up in the morning, was too tired to eat, so threw it away! It's pretty sad but we had a good meal.
Posted this photo on Instagram of the sunset we saw at Marsaskala! Had one more chill session on the rooftop (had to finish our alcohol) with ZY before we fell asleep for the last night in Malta.
Overall Malta didn't turn out to be the beach haven I expected. I'm not the type of traveller who wants to just go to the beaches, but be immersed in the culture of wherever I travel, and Malta fell short in that respect. The beaches in Malta were generally rocky too, which did not help with expectation management whatsoever! However, cheers to my first trip overseas with the gang, couldn't have asked for better company and I think we had a good share of crazy stories, and that is what makes a holiday special.
